| An energy efficient home is one that is significantly cheaper to run than a standard house. It will have superior comfort levels and incorporate a renewable energy technology. It will be typically at least 20% more efficient than a house that meets the current building regulations.
The energy efficient house will have
- 25% better building fabric insulation (u-value)
- 50 – 70% better airtightness
- Whole house heat recovery ventilation (HRV)
- Windtight roof construction (important for dormer/1½ storey)
- Minimal cold bridging at windows/doors
- Renewable technology
Additional efficiency benefits can be achieved by upgrading windows to triple glazing although this is not always essential.
The energy efficient route is suitable for clients that already have a house design and/or planning permission. Magner Homes will analyse your design in consultation with you and provide you with alternatives to achieve improved energy efficiency. The output of the design analysis will be a detailed, fully costed, construction specification. This will also include a provisional BER certificate.
On completion, Magner Homes will provide you with the final BER certificate for your new home. This will be published on the SEAI public register.
